Mixed reality for museums — XR experiences
From observation to participation: experiences built around authentic collections.
Mixed reality for museums — XR experiences
An XR museum experience can extend the story of a real object without replacing it. It can reveal unseen processes, recreate context, explore changes in scale or let visitors interact with a scene connected to the exhibit in front of them. The original collection remains the centre of attention; digital content provides a richer way to understand it.
Designed for real galleries
Work begins with exhibits, lighting, visitor circulation and conservation requirements. A short sequence is then structured around clear narrative goals, intuitive hand interactions and a duration that fits the visitor flow. Digital elements must be positioned within the gallery geometry while respecting doors, display cases and safe walkways.
What it can add to a museum
A visitor could move from simply viewing an object to understanding how it formed, the living organisms in a specimen or the historical process behind an artwork. These are design possibilities, not claims of open exhibitions. Scientific and historical content should be reviewed with each institution's specialists.
- Storytelling built around authentic objects, never replacing them.
- Short participatory experiences that work within a typical visit.
- Operational planning alongside the museum: visitors, headset hygiene, safety and accessibility.
Common questions
Does the gallery need to be rebuilt?
